Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Janitha Ruwan Kodituwakku recently joined a special inspection tour of the Colombo Port Tugboat Yard.
It was observed that tugboats belonging to the Port Authority had been left idle without proper repairs and the employees were of the opinion that due to the inactivity of the tugboats, service provision has been hampered and therefore the ability to provide these services competitively with the private sector has been lost. The Deputy Minister, who later discussed with the top management, said that it appears that this service has been allowed to become inactive due to lack of proper repairs and this should not happen in the future.
It was also requested to send a report on the measures to be taken and the time required to bring the currently inactive tugboats back into operation to the Deputy Minister within a week and a report on the provision of daily tugboat services monthly.

වරාය හා සිවිල් ගුවන්සේවා නියෝජ්ය අමාත්ය ජනිත රුවන් කොඩිතුවක්කු මහතා පසුගිය දා කොළඹ වරාය ටග් යාත්රා අංගනයේ විශේෂ නිරීක්ෂණ චාරිකාවකට එක් විය.
වරාය අධිකාරියට අයත් ටග් යාත්රා නිසි අලුත්වැඩියාවකින් තොරව අකර්මන්යවීමට ඉඩ හැර ඇති බවක් නිරීක්ෂණය වූ අතර සේවක මහතුන්ගේ අදහස වූයේ ටග් යාත්රා අකර්මන්යවීම හේතුවෙන් සේවා සැපයීම අඩාල වී ඇති අතර එම නිසා පෞද්ගලික අංශය සමග තරගකාරීව මෙම සේවා සැපයීමේ හැකියාව අහිමිව ගොස් ඇති බවයි. අනතුරුව ඉහළ කළමනාකාරීත්වය සමග සාකච්ඡා කළ නියෝජ්ය අමාත්යවරයා කියා සිටියේ නිසි අලුත්වැඩියා කටයුතු නොකිරීමෙන් මෙම සේවාව අකර්මන්ය වීමකට ඉඩ හැර ඇති බව පෙනී යන අතර මින් ඉදිරියට එලෙස නොවිය යුතු බවයි.
තවද දැනට අකර්මන්ය වී ඇති ටග් යාත්රා නැවත සක්රීය තත්වයට ගෙන ඒම සඳහා ගත යුතු ක්රියාමාර්ග සහ ගතවන කාලය පිළිබඳ වාර්තාවක් සතියක් ඇතුළත සහ දෛනික ටග් යාත්රා සේවා සැපයීම පිළිබඳ වාර්තාවක් මාසිකව නියෝජ්ය අමාත්යවරයා වෙත එවන මෙන් පවසා සිටින ලදී.
