ආපදා කළමනාකරණය සම්බන්ධයෙන් කටයුතු කරන ආයතන හා මාධ්යවේදීන් අතර සම්බන්ධීකරණය ශක්තිමත් කිරීම මෙන්ම, ආපදා තත්ත්වයන් පිළිබඳ තොරතුරු වාර්තා කිරීමේදී නිවැරදිභාවය, වගකීම සහ ජනතාවට ඇති බලපෑම පිළිබඳ අවධානය යොමු කිරීම මෙහි ප්රධාන අරමුණ වී ඇත.

එමෙන්ම ආපදා අවස්ථාවකදී ජනතාවට අවශ්ය නිවැරදි අනතුරු ඇඟවීම්, ආරක්ෂිත ස්ථාන, සහන සේවා සහ අදාළ නිල තොරතුරු කඩිනමින් ලබාදීම සඳහා මාධ්ය ආයතන හා ආපදා කළමනාකරණ බලධාරීන් අතර සමීප සම්බන්ධතාවක් පවත්වාගෙන යාමේ වැදගත්කමද මෙහිදී පෙන්වා දී ඇත.

Colombo — A programme aimed at raising awareness among journalists about the responsibility of the media in communicating accurate and responsible information to the public during disaster situations was held in Kurunegala, covering the Puttalam District.
The main objectives of the programme were to strengthen coordination between institutions involved in disaster management and journalists, while also focusing on accuracy, responsibility and the impact on the public when reporting information related to disaster situations.
Particular emphasis was placed on the need for responsible media practices, as the dissemination of unverified information during natural disasters such as floods and landslides could create unnecessary fear or confusion among the public.
The importance of maintaining close coordination between media institutions and disaster management authorities was also highlighted, particularly in ensuring that the public receives timely and accurate warnings, information on safe locations, relief services and other relevant official information during disaster situations.
It was further emphasized that communicating accurate information is an important social responsibility of the media in protecting the lives and property of the public.
The programme’s coordination activities were carried out under the guidance of Mrs. B.G.P.N. Dilshari, Director of Media and Development.
The organization and coordination of the workshop were carried out with the support of officials, including Mr. Chandana Vidanapathirana, Head of the Ministry’s Media Division.
