The Vehicle Importers Association of Sri Lanka (VIAL) has urged the public to carefully consider their options when purchasing electric vehicles (EVs).
They have warned that the market value of many such vehicles will drop by millions of rupees within a few months.
Although electric vehicles have become popular, they have posed new challenges to prospective buyers, especially after the lifting of the vehicle import ban, VIAL Chairman Indika Sampath Merenchige stressed at a media briefing.
“Apart from the major, established electric vehicle brands, a large number of electric vehicles were imported, mainly from China, immediately after the restrictions were eased. Unfortunately, the market price of many of these vehicles has dropped by two to three million rupees within a few months of purchase,” Merenchige stressed.
He explained that the main reason for this devaluation was the rapid model changes seen in the Chinese electric vehicle market.

විදුලි වාහන (EV) මිලදී ගැනීමේදී විකල්පයන් හොඳින් සලකා බලන ලෙස වාහන ආනයනකරුවන්ගේ සංගමය (VIAL) මහජනතාවගෙන් ඉල්ලීමක් කර සිටිනවා.
එවැනි බොහෝ වාහනවල වෙළෙඳපොළ වටිනාකම මාස කිහිපයක් ඇතුළත රුපියල් මිලියන ගණනකින් පහත වැටෙන බවටයි ඔවුන් අනතුරු අඟවා ඇත්තේ.
විදුලි වාහන ජනප්රිය වී ඇතත්, විශේෂයෙන් වාහන ආනයන තහනම ඉවත් කිරීමෙන් පසු අනාගත ගැනුම්කරුවන්ට ඒවා නව අභියෝග එල්ල කර ඇති බවයි, මාධ්ය හමුවක් අමතමින් VIAL සභාපති ඉන්දික සම්පත් මෙරෙන්චිගේ මහතා අවධාරණය කළේ.
“ප්රධාන, ස්ථාපිත විදුලි වාහන සන්නාම හැරුණු විට, ප්රධාන වශයෙන් චීනයෙන් විශාල විදුලි වාහන ප්රමාණයක් සීමා ලිහිල් කළ වහාම ආනයනය කෙරුණා. අවාසනාවකට, මෙම වාහන බොහොමයක වෙළෙඳපොළ මිල මිලදී ගැනීමෙන් මාස කිහිපයක් ඇතුළත රුපියල් මිලියන දෙක තුනකින් පහත වැටිලා තියෙනවා,” මෙරෙන්චිගේ මහතා අවධාරණය කළේ ය.
මෙම අවප්රමාණය වීමට ප්රධාන හේතුවක් ලෙස ඔහු පැහැදිලි කළේ චීන විදුලි වාහන වෙළෙඳපොළේ දක්නට ලැබෙන වේගවත් මාදිලි වෙනස්වීම් බවය.
