An idea that began with a discussion at a hotel has, within just one year, transformed into a major cinematic production attracting audiences to packed theatres around the world. That is the story of “Eda Re” – One Voice Million Hearts.
The film project began with its first discussion at the Imperial Monarch Hotel in September 2025. Inspired by the life of Milton Mallawarachchi, affectionately known as the Prince of Love Songs in Sri Lankan music, the project set out to pay tribute to one of the country’s most beloved musical legends.
Although many believed that producing a biographical film of this scale would take several years, the Muhurath Ceremony was held at Nawaloka Banquet Hall in January 2026, just four months after the initial discussions.
Subsequently, on September 18, 2026, the film began its theatrical release, marking a remarkable milestone as a Sinhala film reportedly screened in the largest number of cinemas in Sri Lanka and released in the highest number of foreign countries.
Completing a production of this scale within a year and bringing it to international audiences is a notable achievement in Sri Lankan cinema. Featuring the contributions of more than 1,000 artistes and technicians, and incorporating newly recorded versions of 23 evergreen songs, the film was completed and released internationally within just 12 months.
A Journey Where Family Legacy Meets Professional Planning
Behind this achievement lies a clear vision, careful planning and family unity.
The film is produced by One Line Production & Entertainment Pvt Ltd, owned by Chamaka Manjula, Ranil Mallawarachchi, the eldest son of Milton Mallawarachchi, and Dr. Arosha Fernando. Another special feature is the participation of Nirasha Mallawarachchi, Milton Mallawarachchi’s daughter-in-law, as co-producer.
Thus, “Eda Re” is more than a cinematic production. It is a heartfelt family tribute to a musical legacy that continues to inspire generations.
Dr. Arosha Fernando Hints at More Record-Breaking Achievements
“Eda Re” is the 17th film produced by Dr. Arosha Fernando during his 12-year career in the film industry.
Speaking at the grand premiere held at Havelock City Mall on September 17, 2026, Dr. Fernando stated:
“This is just the beginning. Many more records are yet to come.”
According to information provided by the film’s production team, the movie has already set records for the highest first-week collection, the highest 10-day collection, the greatest number of advance bookings in Sri Lanka and overseas, and the highest number of sold-out screenings through advance bookings.
These figures have been attributed to the production team, and independent verification of the reported records has not been provided in this article.
From Sri Lanka to India: Expanding the Cinematic Journey
While continuing his journey in Sri Lanka’s film industry, Dr. Arosha Fernando is now expanding his focus towards the Indian film industry.
Through his new Indian company, Freyherr Movies India Pvt Ltd, he is producing his first Kollywood and Bollywood film venture, titled “Orasatha.”
The film is expected to feature renowned Indian artistes Prabhu Deva, Sunny Leone and Yogi Babu.
Dr. Fernando is scheduled to travel to Chennai next week to begin the initial work on the project. He is also scheduled to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in his capacity as Chairman of the Democratic Party of Sri Lanka, according to the information provided.

“මෙය ආරම්භය පමණයි. තවත් බොහෝ වාර්තා ඉදිරියේදී බිහිවීමට නියමිතයි.”
