Meeting between President and Former President of the Republic of South Africa

A meeting between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and former President of the Republic of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, took place at the Presidential Secretariat on the afternoon of (26).

Former President Mbeki, who stated that this was his first visit to Sri Lanka and that he had been interested in the national unity and reconciliation of Sri Lanka in the past, stated that it was a matter of pleasure to visit Sri Lanka at such a time.

He said that although South Africa and Sri Lanka are geographically distant, the two countries have similarities due to the presence of different ethnicities, religions and cultures. Former President Mbeki also stated that both countries face similar challenges in achieving peace and reconciliation and that he would like to share lessons learned and experiences with the President of Sri Lanka in terms of bringing all diverse communities together.

Mr. Mbeki expressed confidence that the President of Sri Lanka will be able to overcome the current economic challenges and national reconciliation challenges by bringing together diverse groups of people.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that he is committed to promoting unity among nations and moving the country forward by overcoming the economic challenges it faces.

The South African High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Sandile Schalk, the Chief Executive Officer of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, Maxwell Boqwana, the Chief Operating Officer of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, Lukhanyo Neer, and the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, and the Senior Additional Secretary to the President, Roshan Gamage, also participated in the event, representing Sri Lanka.

Mr. Shevan Daniel, Executive Group Director of Capital Maharaja Group, and Ms. Anushka Lewke, Manager of Capital Maharaja Group, were also present at the event.

ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතා සහ දකුණු අප්‍රිකානු ජනරජයේ හිටපු ජනාධිපති තාබෝ ම්බෙකි මහතා (Thabo Mbeki) මහතා අතර හමුවක් (26) වෙනි දින පස්වරුවේ ජනාධිපති කාර්යාලයේදී සිදු විය.

මෙය සිය ප්‍රථම ශ්‍රී ලංකා සංචාරය මෙය බවත්, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ජාතික සමඟිය හා සංහිඳියාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් පසුගිය කාලයේ තමන් උනන්දුවෙන් පසු වූ බවත් පැවසූ හිටපු ජනපති ම්බෙකි මහතා මෙවැනි කාලයක ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ සංචාරය කිරීමට ලැබීම සතුටට කරුණක් බව සඳහන් කළේය.

දකුණු අප්‍රිකාව හා ශ්‍රී ලංකාව භූ ගෝලීය වශයෙන් දුරස්ථ වුවද, විවිධ ජාතීන්, ආගම් සහ සංස්කෘතින් පැවතීම හේතුවෙන් දෙරටෙහි සමානත්වයක් පවතින බව ඔහු පැවසීය. එසේම, සාමය හා සංහිඳියාව ළඟා කර ගැනීමේදී දෙරටටම එකම ආකාරයේ අභියෝග පවතින බවත්, විවිධත්වයක් සහිත සියලු ජන කණ්ඩායම් එක මාවතකට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් උගත් පාඩම් සහ අත්දැකීම් ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ජනාධිපතිවරයා සමඟ බෙදා ගැනීමට තමා කැමති බවත් හිටපු ජනපති ම්බෙකි මහතා ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

විවිධත්වයක් සහිත ජන කණ්ඩායම් එකට එකතු කර ගනිමින්, පවතින ආර්ථික අභියෝග හා ජාතික සංහිඳියාව පිළිබඳ අභියෝග ජය ගැනීමට ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ජනාධිපතිවරයාට හැකි බවට ම්බෙකි මහතා මෙහිදී විශ්වාසය පළ කළේය.

ජාතීන් අතර සමඟිය වර්ධනය කිරීමටත්, රට මුහුණ දී ඇති ආර්ථික අභියෝග ජයග්‍රහණය කරමින් ඉදිරියට ගෙන යාමටත්, තමා ඇපකැප වී සිටින බව ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතා මෙහිදී පැවසීය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ දකුණු අප්‍රිකානු මහ කොමසාරිස් සැන්ඩිල් ෂාල්ක් ( Sandile Schalk), තාබෝ ම්බෙකි පදනමේ ප්‍රධාන විධායක නිලධාරී මැක්ස්වෙල් බොක්වානා (Maxwell Boqwana) , තාබෝ ම්බෙකි පදනමේ ප්‍රධාන මෙහෙයුම් නිලධාරී ලුක්හන්යෝ නීර් (Lukhanyo Neer) යන මහත්වරුද ශ්‍රී ලංකාව නියෝජනය කරමින් මහජන ආරක්ෂක හා පාර්ලිමේන්තු කටයුතු අමාත්‍ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල සහ ජනාධිපති ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ අතිරේක ලේකම් රෝෂන් ගමගේ යන මහත්වරුද මෙම අවස්ථාවට සහභාගී වූහ.
